The Gods Are Still Not to Blame has the trappings of an authentic African movie (from the music to the language) that can appeal to a global audience. The film is a contemporary treatment of Oedipus Rex. The scenery which was shot in Nigeria, Cote d’Ivoire and Cameroon is breathtaking and the costumes are top notch. The acting is of a very high standard from both the old and new faces of Nollywood. Unfortunately, the film is marred by poor lighting and inconsistent subtitling. As a whole, the movie works with its infusion of history, drama, culture, literature and romance.
